Privacy Policy
Rafter Lane (rafterlane.com) is a website run by one person, Onur T. This page explains what information the site collects when you read it, who else receives it and what you can do about it. For questions or requests, email [email protected].
In short
- You can read everything without an account. There are no comments, sign-ups or contact forms.
- Visits are counted with Google Analytics.
- Ads, once they start, come from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to choose and measure them.
- Rafter Lane doesn’t sell lists of readers and doesn’t pass your details to contractors or manufacturers.
Server logs
Every website receives some technical details with each visit: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, the page that sent you and the time. Our web host keeps these in server logs for security and troubleshooting. Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site to speed it up and block attacks, handles the same requests and may set a strictly necessary security cookie. We don’t use these logs to identify readers.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 counts visits and shows which pages people read, how they arrived (for example from Pinterest or a Google search) and roughly where they are (country and region). It sets its own cookies on this site and receives your IP address, which Google says Analytics doesn’t log or store. We keep Analytics data for 14 months. Rafter Lane doesn’t send names, email addresses or anything else that identifies you to Google Analytics.
You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Page speed
Cloudflare Web Analytics measures how fast pages load for real visitors. Cloudflare says it doesn’t use cookies or any other storage in your browser for this, and doesn’t fingerprint visitors by IP address or browser details. We’ve set it not to collect data from visitors in the European Union.
Ads
Ads aren’t running yet. This section applies from the day they start, and this page will be updated that day.
Rafter Lane shows ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this site or other websites. Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the site sets analytics and advertising cookies only after you agree in the consent message, and you can change your choice at any time. If you live in a US state whose privacy law lets you opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted ads, the site shows a link where you can do that.
The Save buttons on images are ordinary links. Nothing from Pinterest loads on our pages until you click one; after that, Pinterest’s own privacy policy applies.
If you email [email protected], Rafter Lane receives your address and what you wrote, and uses them only to reply. We delete messages once they’re no longer needed, and at the latest two years after the last message in a conversation.
Site search
Search words appear in the page address, so they end up in server logs and Google Analytics like any other page. Please don’t type personal information into the search box.
Fonts and files
Fonts, styles and images load from Rafter Lane’s own server. The site doesn’t use outside font services or embedded videos.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them. Browsers’ “Do Not Track” signals don’t change how the site works; use the opt-outs above instead.
Your rights
If you live in the EEA, the UK, California or another US state with a privacy law, you may have the right to see the personal information held about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how it’s used. Most of the information described here is held by Google and Cloudflare, not by Rafter Lane. Email [email protected] and you’ll get help with what Rafter Lane holds (emails and logs) and a pointer to the right tool for the rest, within 30 days.
For readers in the EEA and the UK, the legal bases are: legitimate interest for security logs and for replying to email, and consent for analytics and advertising cookies. Google, Cloudflare and our web host may process data outside your country under their own safeguards.
Children
Rafter Lane is written for homeowners and isn’t meant for children under 13. It doesn’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. When the site starts using a new service that collects information, we update this page before the service goes live.
